The Ultimate List of Manners

As my kids grow, there’s many things I want to teach them. Manners in my opinion are very important although I do agree there are times when manners need to go out the door. Those situations I’ll write about in another post. But for now, I created an ultimate list of manners. Things I want to make sure my kids learn as they grow up.

 

  • Hold the door open for others.
  • Give up your seat for others
  • Do not get into fights over the phone or text message
  • Say “Excuse Me”
  • Use a Coaster
  • Say “Please” and “Thank you”
  • Smile at those you’re doing business with.
  • Look at the person who is speaking to you
  • Let someone go in front of you in line
  • Cough or Sneeze into your elbow (Always cover your mouth)
  • Learn people’s names
  • Handwrite thank you notes
  • Be on time
  • Clean up after your pet
  • RSVP
  • Ask before posting other people (especially kids) on social media.
  • Shake hands firmly
  • Use your turn signal
  • Wash your hands after using the bathroom
  • Clean up after yourself
  • Wait a day when reacting to something that upset you.
  • Push your chair in when you leave a table
  • Ask before bringing a guest
  • Stay home when you’re sick
  • Knock before you enter
  • Reach out to people who are grieving
  • Let people off the elevator before you get on
  • Silent your phones at movies or plays
  • Help someone who is clearly struggling
  • Thank a veteran for his or her service
  • Wipe down the exercise machine after you use it
  • Take your shopping cart to the return
  • Don’t groom yourself in public (especially floss)
  • Learn to say you’re sorry
  • Return calls
  • Stand for introductions
  • Make eye contact
  • Avoid reaching across the table for food
  • Avoid eating off other people’s plates
