Having direction and a purpose changes us substantially. Those who are motivated and seeking a higher purpose more often are able to remain positive, have a higher self esteem, lower self critical self talk, and higher self acceptance. How do you get direction? Setting goals for yourself, having a positive mindset, and motivation can help you create direction and purpose.

Write Your Goals Down

Writing down your goals helps you first, remember them, second encode them in your brain. Having your goals written also helps to make them real. Set time limits and give your self steps to reach that goal. I like to put mine in my calendar.

Tell Someone About Your Goal

Telling someone helps your goal become real as well. It also makes you more accountable. Having a support system that will push you and motivate you also helps you reach your goals.

Remain Positive

It can be easy to become negative when you do not reach goals you set. This is where losing a perfectionist mindset is important. Remember it’s okay to fail. Learn from any mistakes you made and move on. Set new goals and steps for them.

Reward Yourself

As you reach specific milestones in your goals, reward yourself. Give yourself positive reinforcement.

Take Breaks

Do not overdo it. If you do not give yourself time to relax and sit back you’ll become stressed and frustrated. When stressed and frustrated it can be easy to lose motivation. Give yourself breaks and remember self care.

Watch and Read Motivational Material

Watch people talk about reaching your goals. Read self help and personal development books.

Surround Yourself by Others Who Are Motivated and Positive.

This is the most important factor, in my opinion, we are feeling people. The power of a smile from someone you pass by can make your day. The opposite is also true. When are surrounded by negative people we tend to take on the negativity. If you want to remain positive and motivated, surround yourself with people that feel the same. Be each others support system. Motivate each other.
